About Tempus

The Tempus Program promotes the modernization of higher education in the former USSR countries, Eastern Europe, the Mediterranean Region, Central Asia and the West Balkans, first of all through university cooperation projects. Also, Tempus assists the harmonization of the partner countries’ higher education systems with European higher education trends such as the Lisbon Strategy and the Bologna Process. Besides fostering the cooperation of organizations the Tempus Program facilitates direct contacts between people. This program supports consortiums of higher education institutions including universities or university associations, as a rule. Consortiums may also include non-academic partners, such as representatives of business communities. Currently the program is in its fourth phase. Its total annual budget amounts to 35-39 million Euro and is being managed by the  namely Education, Audiovisual and Culture Executive Agency (EACEA)
